St. Petersburg, Florida, May 30, 1997 -- Florida-based AKP Incorporated today announced a keyboard platform that may lessen eyestrain and stress on wrists. The platform, which resembles a rolling chair base with a podium top, allows users to adjust a keyboard's height, angle, or distance from the monitor. The AKP uses a spring cylinder, similar to one found in an office chair. The device can be raised up to 36.5 inches, allowing you to type standing if you want to vary your position. You can also adjust the altitude of both keyboard and mouse. But the comfortable wrists that so many PC users long for won't come cheap. The Adjustable Keyboard Podium lists for $129.95. While wrist injuries are common, it's unclear how effective ergonomic enhancements are in preventing them. Even with an ergonomic aid, experts advise that you should keep your forearms parallel to the floor--at about 90 degrees--and the keyboard at the same level as your forearms. Watch your posture--sit upright and keep your feet flat on the floor. Also, take periodic rest and stretch breaks. --30-- | |
